Frequently Asked Questions
How can physical therapy help me?
It is a question we frequently hear in physical therapy, is it normal to have this pain? The answer is that while pain is very common in today's world, it is NOT normal to hurt all the time. Pain is a message to your body that something is not functioning the way that it should. There can be a variety of reasons that someone might experience pain. It is also possible to have a condition that is not painful, but significantly impacts your ability to function day to day. At Maximum Performance we specialize in diagnosing and treating pain and impaired function affecting the nervous, muscular, and skeletal systems.
Do I need a referral or prescription to come to physical therapy?
Maryland is a direct access state which means that our licensed therapists are qualified to evaluate and treat your condition without a physician referral. However, many insurance plans require one for therapy to be covered. Please check with your insurance to confirm your benefits.
What do I bring in for my first visit?
We ask that you bring in a photo I.D, your insurance card, and a copy of your referral and/or prescription if your insurance requires one. We also ask that you please arrive 15-20 minutes early to fill out your new patient paperwork. Paper work is available to be emailed upon request or you can find them under our "Insurance & Patient Forms" tab.
How long does a visit last?
We perform an evaluation and treatment on the first visit, so patients can expect to be in the clinic for 60-75 minutes. Subsequent follow-up visits will last for 45-60 minutes.
